This plant is native to Asia and is grown for its colorful foliage that maintains its metallic purple color even in the heat of summer. The leaves are purple on the lower surfaces and a combination of purple and silver on the upper surface. 

Provide a sunny growing area or one that receives some afternoon shade as well as an even supply of soil moisture. Best to fertilize landscape plantings once a month and twice a month in containers with a well-balanced fertilizer. Mature plants produce blue flowers that occur in spikes but are not ornamental.
